wedding question

It may be the most special day of your life. Why take chances? The harsh reality is that after

the cake is eaten, the flowers have wilted and the tuxedos have been returned, the only thing left from your wedding day will be your memories -- and your photographs. You wouldn't let an amateur wire your house, would you? Why let one take the most important photographs of your life?

I only do one wedding a day. I offer many modular wedding packages to fit most budgets. Package prices start at $450.00. I use both a traditional, photojournalistic (candid) style, including black and white and color. I use many kinds of flash, filter and lighting techniques. Bridal portraiture may be done at my studio or at an outdoor location of your choice. Basic packages, beginning at $110.00, include sitting fee, a 16x20 lacquered-sprayed and mounted portrait and two 5x7 black and white glossies for the newspapers . Engagement portraits may be done at my studio or at an outdoor location of your choice. Basic costs begin at $45.

Some of the items in our packages are:

* A custom-made Art Leather album.

* Different amounts of contracted time so that you don't pay extra for time not used. If you need me longer on your wedding day, I will be there on an hourly charge.

* A proof album is provided to make your wedding album photo selections. (Unless purchased, the proof album must be returned with order.)

* Parent or grandparent albums, beginning at $450, may be purchased separately.

* Black and white is an option at no additional charge. Sepia or hand-tinted prints are priced slightly higher.

* Proof albums are ready within two weeks of your wedding and your finished album is ready for pickup within six-seven weeks of your wedding package order (due to holidays in November and December, albums may be delayed one-two weeks if ordered in these months).

* I don't double book.

* Are you interested in Signature Photos and matting? Contact me today.

* Have you heard about the image box?

Do you shoot black & white or color? A little of both. I shoot the traditional group shots, alter returns, and decoration documentation in color. The candid shots are photojournalistic, and are usually shot in black & white. Remember, your package will be customized to fit your style. whether you want all black & white, all color or a mixture of both.

How many photos do you usually take? Depending on the size of the wedding, estimate between 150-350.

Does the client get to keep the  proofs? Yes, you will get a box of the wedding day images.

Will you travel to photograph wedding? Yes, I have clients ranging from the Carolina in DC. My rate apply to all weddings, but a travel fee is required for any wedding outside my area.

Family Portrait Tips

Beautiful portraits don’t just happen by accident. They are planned and prepared for with care and precision. If all goes well and everyone is relaxed, then the magic is created by the portrait artist to bring together the clothing, lighting, composition and expression.

Families: It is vital in a family portrait that all members are properly coordinated. The best clothing is casual, comfortable and somewhat on the ordinary side. This is not the time to wear trendy clothing, tight short skirts, short, sleeveless shirts, tank tops or chunky shoes.

If anyone in your family carries a little weight there are ways to be sure they look their best. First is to make sure the clothes fit and are not too tight or too large. Nothing is worse than a shirt too large and falling off the shoulders or a shirt too tight pulling across the tummy.

Some good suggestions are to wear v-necks or the collarless shirts so the neck is exposed. Do not wear turtlenecks that make double chins more prominent. Solid clothing is best with matching tops and bottoms both being a neutral color. No sleeveless shirts and the best are soft long sleeved looks that lay properly.

Best clothing for families is of the Gap or Limited Stores type. Khaki, denim, black or white, plain blouses, shirts or sweaters go well with long skirts or pants. No labels emblazoned on the fronts or symbols or t-shirts that shout manufacturers’ names.

Stay Simple, simple, and simple.

Babies: Many of the best baby portraits are with naked babies and a simple prop. A simple and pastel baby

Dress or one piece for a boy is always great.

Be aware that layers of dresses are very messy on young babies not sitting up yet. And boys dressed in suspenders that tend to fall down or collars that won’t quite lie down are also not the best clothing to dress baby in.

In Florida there is a tendency to sometimes think shorts will be good for portraits. This might be fine for outdoor portraits, but check how bruised your children’s legs are before making a final decision. While the bruises can be retouched, we always strive for natural looking portraits and too much retouching can be a problem.

Bathing suits are not appropriate for portraits at any time unless the theme of the portrait is that. Even on the beach, white flowing dresses and sweet dresses for girls and rolled up white or khaki pants for boys is the best choice. A touch of pastels is nice to add some color.

For my northern clients, think sweaters and soft cashmeres. Pastels in spring are gorgeous with the blooming flowers. Denim with white shirts is always good and in summer, denim with no shirt is a fun look. Sweatshirts in great colors would make a colorful portrait with each child in denim bottoms and each sweatshirt or sweater in a different bright color.

One last thought. Your portrait is going to hang in your home and be displayed for many years. Check how the clothing you have chosen will look in the room you are hanging the portrait. If you have a neutral room with whites and tans, a portrait with everyone in purple clothes might not be what you want to wear.

WOMEN: Wear natural makeup but tend to go more on the evening side of makeup than daytime. Even in the best outdoor portraits, you will become a bit washed out if your makeup if too light.

Do not try new hair styles or hair colors for your portrait session. Keep hair soft and use your usual styling. An extra bit of mascara makes eyes stand out and a soft color lipstick will be plenty of color.

MEN: Shave right before your portrait appointment or bring your cordless shaver to the outdoor session and do it in the car. One of the hardest retouching to do is Five O’clock Shadow. That is a retouches nightmare.

GLASSES: Dealing with eyeglasses is one of photographers’ biggest problems. To light you so you look your best, it’s not always best for the glare it creates in your glasses hiding your beautiful eyes.

This can be minimized with careful planning.

Have your optometrist supply you with an empty pair of frames that match your own. They will usually do this on loan with a deposit that is totally refundable.

Guidelines for Senior Portrait Attire

Are you worried that you don’t have anything to wear for your senior portraits?  Let’s look and see.  Take a peek in your closet.  What’s your favorite outfit?  Which one makes you feel great when you wear it?  Is there something in there that’s your favorite color—grab that one, too!  Now, how about what you wear for your favorite sport or hobby?  Bring that along as well.

If you’re still short on ideas, flip through the ads in your favorite magazines and pull out anything that really catches your eye.  Try to put together an outfit that’s similar to that.

A senior portrait should be about who you are and who you are becoming.  Choose clothing and accessories that you feel comfortable in and that help tell the “story of you.”  Please feel free to bring with you any props or accessories that will complement your photograph.  This might include musical instruments, sporting equipment, pets, cars, etc.

Here are a few guidelines for picking out clothes for your Senior Celebration Portraits:

Keep clothing simple.  Solid colors tend to photograph better than prints, stripes, plaids, etc.  You usually want to avoid clothing with printing (words) on it unless it’s part of a uniform or letter jacket.

Coordinate from head to toe.  Bring the right shoes.  If you’re wearing your track uniform, bring your track shoes along.  If you’re wearing dressy clothes, bring dress shoes (and always dark socks unless you’re wearing white pants).  If you’re wearing jeans, dark shoes will look better than white sport shoes.

Dark clothing makes you look thinner.  Light colors tend to emphasize your body size.  Outdoor portraits often look better in the colors you would find in nature—denim, khaki, white, earth tones, etc.

Pay attention to your necklines.  V-necks and scoop necks will lengthen and thin a round face or short neck.  Turtlenecks and crew necks tend to shorten and round the face, making them ideal for someone with a long, thin face.

Long sleeves and long pants are best.  Exposed arms and legs draw attention away from the face.

Make sure your nails are clean!  Girls—a manicure counts here—chipped or bright nail polish will stand out in the picture like a sore thumb.

If you want to try a new “do” make sure to get your hair cut at least a couple of weeks before.  Most new haircuts need at least that much time to soften a bit and grow into the cut.  The day before your portrait sitting is not the time to get a perm or try a new hair color.  If you don’t like it, you won’t like your pictures.  Guys should shave within a couple hours of your sitting time.

If you wear glasses, you should wear them for your senior pictures.  However, the lenses can cause unpleasant glare and reflections which are sometimes hard to correct.  If at all possible, ask your optician if you can borrow a pair without lenses for the portrait.

When You Come for Your Portraits

Bring your outfits—assemble everything the day before so you won’t forget anything important.  Bring anything you want in the photograph with you—football, tennis racket, tuba, skis, your dog, even your best friend!  Bring your favorite CD’s and be ready to have FUN!!

We are happy to meet with you at no additional charge prior to your portrait sitting to discuss clothing and sitting options.

Boudoir Photography Services

Boudoir Gallery

It is a sensitive portrait of a woman or man in a relaxed atmosphere done with the intent of creating a work of fine art. Moreover, it is the timeless expression of the essence of a woman's sensuality. The fluid grace of her line and form softened to lend a particular warmth and intimacy to the entire scene. From the classically sensual to the intensely erotic, these portraits are artistic, suggestive, may or may not be revealing and are done with the utmost taste

Your portraits are individually designed according to your personality and desires. Set at your convenience, in the comfort and privacy of your home or on location, your sensual best will be captured on color or black and white film.

Boudoir Photography should be more than taking pictures of a woman in lingerie. Specializing in location photography, we create photographs on locations that have meaning to the subject... and to the eventual viewer of the photographs. We realize that Boudoir Photography is a very personal choice and can raise many questions and concerns. Some of the more common questions are addressed below. We want to address all of your questions, so please contact us. We want to help you make this as special as you deserve it to be.

Frequently asked questions...

I'm nervous enough about having my picture taken; how will I feel if I'm in lingerie?

Many people can be, at least initially, uncomfortable in front of the camera. But my experience has shown that my professionalism will guide you through the process. Plus working in a familiar environment (rather than an unfamiliar studio) can help put you at ease.

Why don't you use a studio?

I want to connect your fantasy with your reality -- and a studio has nothing to do with your reality. Typically we'll work in a client's home but we've worked in other locations as well; one client had us photographer her on the deck of her boat and another at a restaurant where she worked as a waitress. And a familiar location can help make you feel at ease in front of the camera. Of course, if you'd prefer a studio, I can do that for you as well.

How long will the photography take?

Prior to the actual session, preparation may take about an hour -- your wardrobe & makeup, setting up our photographic equipment, etc. Once I start the actual photography, it depends primarily upon your comfort level in front of the camera. I have had sessions that last an hour & we have had sessions go as quickly as 15 minutes.

What about wardrobe and hair & makeup?

Wardrobe is usually left up to you. I am more than happy to help you choose specific pieces. And if your time and budget allow, I'll even go shopping with you. Because there are as many ideas and fantasies as there are women, it would be a practical impossibility for us to supply the wardrobe.
I also leave hair & makeup to you. Again, if you need suggestions, I can help you with what works best in front of the camera & what works best for a particular outfit. Also, stylists may be hired (but there will be additional costs).

Can nude photography be part of a boudoir session?

I will photograph you in any way that you desire. The limits of a session are determined by you. So if you want to pose nude, semi-nude, or fully clothed, it's your decision. I can discuss the entire scope of your boudoir photo sessions long before I even begin so there will no questions by the time I start. There may be limitations placed on us (for example, if we're on location), but other than that, we're here to help you capture your fantasy.

What will this cost?

The costs range depending upon how much you want to have done. You can start with a single session and receive one print for less than $150.00 Of course, you can always purchase more. There will always be discounts for buying larger quantities and there are packages available to save you even more money. Don't forget to ask if we're running any current specials.

Are there any age restrictions?

Because of the sensitive nature of boudoir photography, I limit these services to people who are at least 18 years old. If there is any question, we may request that you provide proof of age. There is, of course, no upper limit.

How long will it be before I see finished prints?

A few weeks after the session, we'll show you proof images. We'll make suggestions as to what we think works best but all final decisions will, of course, be up to you. After viewing the proofs, you tell us which images you want printed. About an weeks later, you'll have the finished prints. Please bear in mind, though, that printing schedules are up to the lab.

How do I get the process started?

Contact us (call, e-mail, write, carrier pigeon, whatever!). I'll discuss the specifics of what you would like me to do for you. Tell me what you have in mind. I'll work with you from the beginning to the end. You or somebody very special to you already has some kind of fantasy in mind; my job is to take that picture in your head and turn it into a photograph on paper.

Thank you for your interest in our Boudoir Photography services.
